The Kano State Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alh. Umar Farouk Ibrahim has praised the State Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency for its exemplary performance in transforming the pharmaceutical sector.

Speaking when he received the leadership of Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), who paid him a courtesy visit in his office, the SSG commended the Director-General DMCSA Pharm. Gali Sule and the management team for their transparency, dedication, and commitment, which according to him have resulted in recording significant strides in the agency’s operations, including the repayment of more 80 percent of inherited debts.

“Today, we recognize the Kano State Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency not only for paying off most of the debts that previously hindered its capacity but also for its visible achievements in improving access to quality medicines and strengthening the drug supply chain across the state,” the SSG explained. “This administration places a premium on accountability, and the DMCSA has demonstrated what is possible with sound management and clear focus.”

The SSG highlighted some of the agency’s key milestones, including paying off of multimillion-naira legacy debt inherited from past administration and the revamping of the state’s central drug warehouse and distribution system.

Other remarkable achievements recorded at DMCSA under Pharm Gali Sule are partnerships with health facilities to ensure consistent drug availability at primary and secondary healthcare levels, the implementation of a digital inventory management system, enhancing efficiency and reducing wastage, among others.

He further assured continued government support to the agency to expand its impact and maintain the gains recorded in the health sector.

Shading more light to the press on the development, the Director-General of the Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency, Pharm. Gali Sule thanked the state government, headed by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, for its unrelenting support and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to delivering safe, affordable, and accessible medicines to the people.

“Our mission is clear: no Kano citizen should be denied access to essential drugs due to cost or unavailability,” he said. “The progress we’ve made is a testament to what can be achieved through collaboration, vision, and integrity.”

Earlier speaking at the event, the National President of PSN Pharm. Ayuba Tanko Ibrahim said they were at the SSG's Officer to extend their gratitude to the State Government for supporting the association.

Pharm. Ibrahim further added that the courtesy call is also part of the Society's efforts to collaborate with Kano State Government and other relevant stakeholders to strategically enhance access to quality medicines and generally strengthen healthcare delivery systems in the state.

The president further emphasized the critical role pharmacists play in achieving universal health coverage, ensuring drug safety, and supporting public health initiatives.

"This visit is aimed at reinforcing cooperation between the Kano State Government and the PSN. We are here not only to pay our respects to the SSG but to also seek stronger collaboration in areas that directly impact the lives of our people,” the President clarified. “Our pharmacists are on the frontlines of healthcare, and with the government’s support, we can do even more to improve outcomes and access to safe medications.”

In response, the SSG commended the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria for its continued dedication to public health and pledged the administration’s commitment to enhancing the pharmacy profession's role within the state’s health architecture.

“We recognize the value your profession brings to our healthcare system, and we are open to working closely with you to ensure quality healthcare delivery for all citizens,” said Alh. Umar Farouk Ibrahim.

The PSN’s visit and SSG's commendation to DMCSA mark a significant milestone in the state’s journey toward a more efficient and reliable healthcare system.
