Kano Health Ministry, C4SD Develop SOPs for LMD of Family Planning Commodities

By Jason Neeson

In a complimenting move and a prerequisite requirement for the successful takeoff of the last mile delivery of family planning commodities, the Kano State Ministry of Health, through Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency (DMCSA),  has organized a meeting, Tuesday, to develop Standard Operating Procedures that will guide the project.

Speaking at the meeting, Pharm. Gali Sule, the Director-General of DMCSA, said creating the SOPs became necessary as the document would serve as a workable guide that would ensure all operations are aligned with the best global practice, as contained in a press statement issued by Farouk Isa Musa, the Public Relations Officer of the agency.

Funded by the Gates Foundation and supported by Capacity for Sustainable Development (C4SD), the last mile delivery for family planning commodities is a part of the integration initiative for all free essential drug programs with the Drug Revolving Fund (DRF) scheme spearheaded by the Ministry of Health, led by the Commissioner Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf.

This joint move, made by the Ministry and the development partners, namely the Gates Foundation and C4SD, is one of several collaborative measures taken to compliment the efforts of the Kano State government, headed by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, to generally revolutionize the health sector in the state.

The participants of the meeting were drawn from relevant organizations, including the state Ministry of Health, Hospital Management Board, State Primary Health Care Management Board, and the representation from health facilities.

Other participants from non-governmental organizations and implementing/ development partners include the Society for Family Healt (SFH), DKT International, and development Research and Projects Center (dPRC), among others.
